My friends humor me when I wanna practice. AND when I throw out ice cream bribes. Works like a charm!

And then, of course, to counteract all the non-smiling serious I'M SUCH A GUY shots we have these lovelies:

The end.

Bues Pond Park ... thawing out. Was Phil right about that early spring? I wouldn't be mad.

PoW : Jan 30 - Feb 6 ... sort of.

I don't really have much by way of a Photo of the Week this time around. The week flew by and I spent it sick and plowing through boxes of tissues. Well, with the exception of that stint to Wendover which I'm pretty sure made things worse (and cost me $5 to those blasted penny slots).

I started organizing my external hard drive and came across an old scan. You know, better this for a PoW than some boring photo of my garbage can piled high with tissues (grossed out yet?). So here we have a fun family photo with all the cousins at Christmas dinner. Precious! Such perfect little kiddos with such shining smiles! Happy holidays everyone! Except ... wait a minute. Who is that little gem in the back with her FINGER UP HER NOSE? Yeah. That'd be me ruining the perfect Christmas dinner photo. Can't rip it out for two seconds to take a nice picture. Here's the thing, guys - this most certainly isn't the only picture of me where I'm picking my nose. And let's be sure that if I have that many pictures of me picking what in the world was I like when the camera wasn't pointed in my direction??

SO LET'S RECAP: Big Jess with a nasty cold this week and 'Lil Jess enjoying herself some good old fashioned nose picking. Full circle. See what I did there?

Ice Castles

So I'm home from work today ... sick. Sick as in my throat is threatening to close at any moment and my head feels as if it could (should, please?) be popped with a pin. Last night's sleep was definitely not solid and I knew I'd just be a foggy mess if I went into work. Good thing I had to go on a flex spending spree in December and bought tons of random medicine. I have high hopes that tomorrow I'll be feeling much better and back on track. Until then, the house is pin drop quiet (except for the rushing of wind outside) and I'm cuddled up on the couch in my warm robe and fuzzy blue socks. Not too bad for a sick day. Now as for that medicine kicking in ... anytime now, thanks.

Last weekend we took a little mini trip up to friend's condo in Midway. We stopped by the Midway Ice Castles. They were all sorts of ethereal, as advertised. The ground is scattered with ice as well so they handed out ski poles and PVC pipes to steady ourselves with. I just so happened to get a child's pole and pretty much felt like Willy Wonka the entire time. Minus the candy, unfortunately.

As we walked through it I was reminded of our own accidental ice sculptures from last year. Maybe we should have left the sprinklers on -- just to see what could have happened. Maybe we could have made a few extra bucks!

Completely unrelated to anything made of ice: this website is killing me. It's so annoyingly entertaining. Hey - everyone seems so compelled to air all sorts of dirty laundry online nowadays anyway. Why not let the internet be your therapist as well?

PoW : Jan 23-30

The girls had their very first dance recital! Gotta focus all that energy somewhere, right?
What's this? BONUS PoW! Mostly just because I thought the whole thing was nothing short of adorable.

Aubree

Cue that Bruno Mars song again because next up we have … AUBREE. Aubs is a firecracker/diva/sweetheart … depending on the minute. She loves pink and purple, dancing, and playing “American Idol” (Note: not sending her to Hollywood is a BIG no-no). She has the cutest little chin freckle I’ve ever seen and one other unique trait that’s nearly unnoticeable – her eyes are different shades of brown. She’s her own little person and I love her for that!

SUNDANCE 2011
This was taken about 30 minutes before James Franco graced the streets of Park City with his presence. And guess who missed it? THIS GIRL DID. I missed seeing that beautiful face all because my feet were cold (to be fair, they were numb). I can only imagine he was as bummed about it as I was. Yeesss, that's right.

* Post Edit *
THIS is what I missed (thanks to Shann for the picture)

Never in my life have I ever wished to be an older, white haired man. Guess there's a first time for everything.

Kambri

I adore my nieces and nephews. Have I mentioned that before? What? A few kagillion times? Oh, sorry about that (except not really). Hey! Kambs turns six next month! She’s one of a kind (seriously) and I love her for that. She’s creative and really smart. I want her to always stay excited and inquisitive and spunky. And as she grows up I don’t want her to let anyone, especially herself, make her believe that she or her ridiculously adorable freckles aren’t good enough. Cause I think she’s perfect just the way she is (cue Bruno Mars song?). Especially with a nose crunching giggle like she has.

Be honest - those little freckles make you smile a little. Hope she doesn’t ever try to bleach them away like Karlee someone else in the family once did. *tisk*tisk*

The lovely inversion nestled over the Bountiful/Salt Lake area. Went snowshoeing to get above it all.
So THAT'S what we've been breathing?? Siiick.

Over the Rainbow

LOVE THIS. I want it framed and hung right my living room where I'd see it 20 times a day.

PoW : Jan 2-9

So ... Marmie and Dad got a new laptop. Guess what program it has?
I had to take some time and try it out for them. You know, to make sure it works right and stuff.

Pow : Dec 26 - Jan 2

One of my first pictures of the new year. 2011! (Do yourself a favor and ignore the creepy man on the upper right hand side.) It seems like time is flying by so quickly and I've no idea how to slow it down. But in the midst of what often feels like organized chaos, I know I've been so blessed this year. Saw my family grow, trained for and ran a marathon, met some great new people, became closer to old friends, visited some new places, moved more than I wanted to, and had more than a few moments of trying, failing, and trying again. As we all do in this little thing called LIFE. Overall, I feel good about the things I've learned this year--even if most of those things were unintended.

I have high hopes for the new year. In the past I've allowed myself to get carried away with my resolutions: too many, too big, too fast. A recipe for failure, as I've discovered. I won't bore you with my narrowed down 2011 resolutions. But suffice it to say that I've given it a lot of thought this week and believe them to be things which will bring some positive things into my life as well as those I'm close to. And the best part? They're 100% doable. Difficult at times, I'm sure to find out, but definitely doable.

So. Here we go. Fingers crossed for a memorable and fulfilling 2011. Happy New Year everyone!
