a "legends of rock" christmas

This year we had our usual present mayhem, cookie decorating contest, and “Christmas in the Hot Tub” complete with the Polar Bear Club. But we did have a new addition: Guitar Hero. Which ended up turning into an all evening event. The surprising star? Marme. She’s a natural. But everyone’s been practicing so we can surely expect some good competition.

Hope you all had a good Christmas. And I just want to thank Santa for bringing me a shiny red iPod instead of my requested toothbrush. It’s VERY pretty and I love it.

well, it's happened again.

{awkward silence}

Anyone remember Craig Kilborn's late night show? Karlee and I always loved that part of the news.

Anyway, it really has happened again. My work was broken into. These last couple of months have been a doosy for people trying to loot our office. You know, it's funny -- out of our entire building, it's always OUR floor. And I don't understand what makes these people think that they're gonna walk away with much. Here are my pearls of wisdom to all our potential burglars:

#1
I work for a nonprofit. NONPROFIT. This means that generally speaking (and especially these days) money isn't exactly something that's flooding into the office on a regular basis. So frankly, if you're able to break in and actually find money to steal, wow. I applaud you. Cause we're there all day and still can't seem to find much. And if you're looking for crazy-cool electronics or valuables, sorry to disappoint. Once again, NONPROFIT. But we do have a sunken dip in the floor by the lunchroom so be sure and trip on that.

#2
I just dare you to try and steal something during business hours. Cause I work with a lot of really dedicated people who love the agency as a whole, are extremely vested in what they do , and aren't afraid to let loose on you. And on the upside, then we might make the news which could open up some new networking possibilities.

#3
If you have to take something and you're feeling ambitious, please consider the area rug and couch in the front area. It's no secret that I hate them.

Thanks!

Study: Romantic Comedies Can Ruin Your Life

Only if I get to put my two cents in about most car chases not being realistic. Then we're good.

This story is courtesy of iMatt who gives props to Justin. It's like one big forwarded email without all the annoying FWD:s in front of it.

I'm now 3% prepared.

I've started my food storage. I know, I know - next thing you know I'll be canning*, knitting*, and toll painting^.

Michelle is a great example and has shelves of food stored in our garage. She always says that of course she'll share if ever needed**, but I don't even want to deal with the awkward moments which will result when the food starts running out and tensions get high. I read Lord of the Flies. People can do some pretty messed up stuff.

So I'm congratulating myself on my first items of food storage: pineapple, water, and granola bars. I feel so ... prepared. Except that I've already eaten one box of the granola bars.

* Lie
^ Even bigger lie - never in a million years
** Blatant lie?

christmas 2008 : part deux

I'm ashamed of myself. In my last post I completely forgot to include my annual plea for everyone to please stop listening to Toby Keith. So here it is. Please? I'm sure he's made enough money to support himself for the rest of his life, so realistically he really could just stop making music. Is that too much to ask for?

Sorry to all you Toby-lovers out there. Agree to disagree. Or maybe just agree with me :)

christmas 2008

As far as versions of O Come O Come Emmanuel go, I really like this one by Sufjan Stevens. It's always been one of my favorite Christmas songs so I was beyond happy to find it.

Add some Still Still Still and select Josh Groban and you've got my mini Christmas playlist. And if we're being honest, throw in some Mariah Carey All I Want for Christmas is You. Don't act like you don't love singing it too. It's universal.

kung fu squirrels

Is this picture real!? With all my heart I hope it is. And if not I'm going to turn a blind eye and let myself be deceived. Here are some more.

Went to a small concert this week featuring Allred and this guy, Jonathan Jones (formerly of Waking Ashland and We Shot the Moon). I was mesmerized when he sang this new song of his, "A Simple Prayer."

I realize mesmerized is a strong description, but I don't know how else to say it. Maybe it was just the right moment in the concert. Maybe it was the piano. I don't know. But I really was mesmerized.

back up

The Thanksgiving Pinata. It didn't look like an act of racism until we hung it up and started hitting it. Oops.
