When I got home this afternoon Michelle frantically told me that she had found a bug in the garage. A big bug (about 2 inches long). A weird bug that she had never seen before. At first I thought she was overreacting .... until I saw the thing. WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS? It's like some strange science project mix between an ant, a bee, and a grasshopper--even has little stingers on its butt. We named it Creepy Arthur.
Can anyone help identify? And should we keep an eye out for more? I won't be a happy girl if I ever wake up with this little guy sitting on the pillow next to me.

That's seriously gross. Maybe it's from the X-Files movie, we should ask Mulder or Scully.
That is an african killer bee. They came up from mexico. The new borns can't fly and crawl around until their wings develop. This one is recently hatched (as can be told be the lack of wings and the oversized head compared to torso). Where exactly did find this? They are supposed to be dangerous in large numbers but 1 or 2 are harmless. Unless their is a hive around your house. I would check.
It's a Jerusalem Cricket.
We caught one and put it in a tupperware container overnight with a couple holes punched in the lid.
The next morning the holes were 3x as big and the dang thing almost escaped. We watched it chewing on the holes for a while.
Freaky!
It's genus and species is Creepious grossitus. That thing is huge! You could put a leash around its neck and take it for a walk.
And the winner is ... (drumroll, please) ..... Cameron's Corner! Cameron, I read your comment right before I was headed down to the garage to poke holes in his "cage." Thanks for the heads up.
Rhett. African Killer Bee?
