oops :(

I accidentally hit a bird on my way home from work this afternoon. I feel terrible about it. Aren't birds supposed to have the good sense to fly away before the car gets that close? Maybe it was the glorious red color of my car that hypnotized him. Or maybe he was feeling a bit slower because of the heat. Whatever the reason, he just wasn't fast enough and hit the front of my car with a surprisingly loud thud. I think he was a pretty big bird? Not sure. It all happened pretty quickly. Startled me quite a bit because I expected him to be quick enough. Feathers went everywhere - and when I say that I'm not kidding. They were still floating around in the air when I looked in my rear view mirror. I did go back to see if he was hurt or possibly dead, but couldn't find him. So either he's a fairly resilient feller or he was scared of me and hid himself.

This is almost as bad as when my dad discovered a dead bird in the front grille of my Chevy Cavalier. Maybe the problem isn't the birds. Maybe I just don't give them enough time to get out of my way. I'm a jerk.

You seem to have something against innocent fowl.Maybe you should get some "help".

I would have to agree with your conclusion that maybe it isn't the bird's fault after all...I don't know, I'm just saying, two innocent birds killed by the same person?

Don't worry, the bird isn't dead. In fact it's probably nesting comfortably with its family. Birds tend to lose their feathers when they are perfectly fine. Not when they are struck by a large metal vehicle traveling at high speeds.

Ma & Pa: I have nothing against innocent fowl. Simply coincidence. I think ...

Hilda: I changed my mind. The birds need to fly faster or get out of the road.

Little Beau Peep: Men lose their hair when they're perfectly fine. Why not birds?

Jessi, darling- I just caught up on your last month or so of blog posting. Thank you for the delightful dose of Jessiness. I do enjoy your blog. And I say for safety's sake, never swerve for small animals. Hopefully the bird survived with no more than a bruised ego, and now he's holding community awareness classes about the dangers of red cars.

I remember the first time I hit a bird. I was coming around a bend, and it just jumped (flew) right at my grill. I think it was trying to commit suicide. Well the worse part was the force of the hit propelled it ontop of my car (xterra) and there it stayed until I managed to get on the free way. That's just gross.

Oh Jess. Could you come over and run over a rooster? Yeah, animal control made some false promises.

The cost: My sanity

Please. Help.
